MINDEN — Harold Warp Pioneer Village and JCT 6/10 Cruzerz have joined together to host the 1st Annual Classic Car show on Saturday, Sept. 2.
The new event will feature a variety of classic cars, live music, family activities, museum tours and different refreshments.
The Minden Chamber of Commerce use to host a car show, held in the square each summer but this event did not take place last year.
JCT 6/10 Cruzerz, the local car club, decided it was a good time to “pick up the ball,” and host a show themselves, said member Kyle Jensen.
The decision was made to change the venue to Pioneer Village for several reasons. Jensen said there has been a community wide effort to help revitalize the museum and the car club wants to help put it back on the map.
To that end, the proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the car club and Pioneer Village.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. on Sept. 2, the cost is $20 per vehicle. The event runs from 12-4 p.m.
The organizers are hoping for at least 100 participating vehicles this year and hope to grow in the future. The vehicles will be staged on the east side of Pioneer Village on Nebraska Ave. and in the historic motel parking lot along Highway 6 and 34, with overflow in the other parking lot.
Jensen said it doesn’t get any better than combining the large number of vintage vehicles at the museum with an area car show.
In addition to the cars there will be live music provided by a Patsy Cline tribute artist, games, food and drink, family activities and museum tours focused on vintage vehicles.
JCT 6/10 Cruzerz is a Minden area car group that has been operating for seven years and currently has 50 members, Jensen said. The group is named Junction 6 and 10 to encourage participants from across the wider area.
In addition to their monthly cruises, the group also participates in philanthropic activities, including giving out scholarships to students going off to trade schools.
Jensen said they like to include the younger generation and expose them to the antique and classic car hobby. He noted this joint event with Pioneer Village is a perfect example of that effort.
If anyone has a notion of what Pioneer Village is like, Jensen asks for people to re-introduce themselves to the museum and to come down to the event to see what is going on in the Minden community.
In June 1953, Harold Warp opened the door to what would one day become a top tourist attraction in the state of Nebraska, it celebrated its 70th anniversary in June.
