HASTINGS – The Hastings College women’s soccer team found its offense following two 1-0 victories last week by defeating Kansas Wesleyan 6-2 on Wednesday evening on Lloyd Wilson Field.

It didn’t take long for the Lady Broncos to strike as Dekota Schubert collected the ball at the top of the circle and after a through ball was deflected back to her, the defense backed off and Schubert placed the shot perfectly over the keepers head for the early 1-0 lead in the 4th minute.

Hastings struck again this time when Megan Lampe sent a long ball that found the feet of Naomi Pedroza as she avoided the keeper and put the shot between the defenders legs and into the goal for the 2-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Moments later, Schubert found a wide open Dulce Lopez down the right side as she ripped a shot that bounced off the cross bar straight down and back into play. At first glance it looked like the shot crossed the goal line and finally the ref stopped play and confirmed with his assistant referee to confirm the goal. This put Hastings up 3-0 in the 13th minute.

HC made it 4-0 when the Pedroza sisters connected for the next goal when Sara Pedroza sent the cross in where Naomi Pedroza put it into the back of the net for her second goal of the contest in the 18th minute.

KWU would get one back after Hastings made some substitutions to make it 4-1 at halftime. Then with the starters back in, the Coyotes stole another goal in the 51st minute as things looked to get a bit interesting.

Hastings was having none of it though when Schubert hit a shot that Allison Blumenthal saved but it ended up at the feet of Michaela Fox where she scored her first collegiate goal to make

Lampe sent in the corner where Schubert headed it home to make it 6-2 in the 78th minute.

Hastings dominated the action with 34 total shots to just 11 for the Coyotes. The Lady Broncos also finished with a 17-to-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Hastings improves to 4-0 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 9 hitting the road to take on Tabor with kickoff set for 2:30 pm in Hillsboro, KS.
