KEARNEY — It was clear the Kearney High School student body was ready to show their school spirit during the 2023 Homecoming pep rally held on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
Ryan Houge, KHS Assistant Principal/Activities Director, welcomed the students to the pep rally after the KHS band played the school song.
There were several games each class, freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors took part in, along with some members of the staff.
The first was a human sized game of Hungry-Hungry Hippos, with a student laying flat on a scooter with a hamper substituting the hippo. After being propelled by their fellow classmates along the gym, the seniors ended up with the most points.
The second was a scooter race from one side of the gym to the other, with a student having to sink a hoop successfully with a basketball while sitting down.

The last event, back by popular demand, was the class cheer competition between all four grades, with the maximum volume of each class measured by the staff.
The volume rose each time the chant was passed but finally it was the juniors who pulled the upset and stormed the court.
