KEARNEY — The Nebraska High School Press Association (NHSPA) has announced the nomination of Christine Johnson, Kearney High School Journalism Teacher, for the prestigious Distinguished Adviser of the Year award.
This distinguished recognition underscores Johnsons’ exceptional dedication and contribution to the field of high school journalism.
Although the identity of the nominator remains anonymous, Johnson has made significant contributions to high school journalism programs and has sent comprehensive information to the NHSPA committee for consideration. Christine Johnson has been teaching at Kearney High School since 2002 in a variety of positions.
She was the adviser of The ECHO, the school newsmagazine, and taught English. In 2015, Johnson started teaching the journalism and photography classes and advising The LOG, the school yearbook “I am honored to be nominated for this award,” said Johnson. “It is humbling to know that others in the state recognize the dedication it takes to be a publications adviser. I am extremely proud that my students are able to be successful in any career they choose and I have positively impacted them over the years.”
“As a dedicated adviser and mentor, Mrs. Johnson has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of young journalists, fostering a culture of excellence, and promoting the principles of responsible journalism,” said KHS Principal, Jeff Ganz. “Under her guidance, students have excelled in reporting, photography, and other journalistic endeavors, earning accolades and recognition at both regional and national levels.”
Johnson will be in attendance at the NHSPA fall convention, scheduled for Monday, October 16, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). During this event, the winner of the Distinguished Adviser of the Year award will be announced.
The Nebraska High School Press Association Distinguished Adviser of the Year award celebrates individuals who have shown unwavering commitment to high school journalism and have made a profound impact on their students’ growth and development as journalists.
