GRAND ISLAND — The fire that broke out at Chief Industries during the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 28 appeared to originate near the bake oven and the cause is under investigation.
According to Grand Island Fire Battalion Chief Scott Kuehl, crews were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. for a report of a structure fire at the Chief location on South North Road.
The facility handles manufacturing for the company’s Buildings division.
Kuehl said the first units on scene reported a large amount of smoke coming from the building. When firefighters were able to enter the facility, they found the fire had originated in the exhaust duct work above the bake oven.
After the fire was located, it was able to be extinguished rather quickly, Kuehl said.
The fire did some damage to the roof, which was estimated to be around $10,000. There were no injuries associated with the fire, Kuehl said.
Kuehl said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
