BEARCAT SOFTBALL PLACED IN A-6 DISTRICT:
The Kearney High School Softball program will head to the Metro to begin their postseason play on Wednesday.
The Bearcats (13-18) wrapped up their conference tournament on Saturday, setting themselves as the third seed in the A-6 District hosted by #1 Millard West (15-9).
Kearney faces #2 Lincoln Pius X (22-11) at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The game will follow the Millard West/Omaha Burke matchup at 10 AM. The winner of each contest will face each other in the double elimination bracket.
STARCOS SOFTBALL BEGINS SUB-DISTRICTS AT PATRIOT PARK:
Kearney Catholic/Amherst Softball hosts the B-9 Sub-District today at Patriot Park.
The Starcos are in action with #4 Lexington and the winner will await the victor of McCook/HWY 6.

LOPER FOOTBALL WINS HOMECOMING MATCHUP OVER WASHBURN:
Nebraska Kearney had three first half fourth down stops, six sacks including a scoop-and score and recovered two on-side kicks to hold off Washburn, 27-21, Saturday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
The Lopers (2-3, 2-3) beat the Ichabods (1-4, 0-4) for the fourth time in the last five meetings. Those wins came by a total of 19 points with UNK now having an 18-13 all-time series lead.
UNK’s defense and special teams shined, blocking a punt and recording several sacks while also recovering two late onside kicks.
UNK heads to No. 21 Central Missouri next Saturday. The Mules (4-1) out lasted Northwest Missouri today, 41-38.
HASTINGS BLASTED BY DORDT AT HOME:
The Hastings College football team ran into a bit of a buzz saw on Saturday afternoon as the Dordt Defenders came away with the 61-21 victory on Homecoming out on Lloyd Wilson Field.
Hastings finished the game with 276 yards of offense compared to 657 for Dordt.
Hastings falls to 3-3 (2-3) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 7 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 1 Northwestern with kickoff set for 1:00 pm out in Orange City, IA.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SURVIVES HOT-START INDIANA:
The second-ranked Nebraska volleyball team won its 13th straight match to start the season with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19) victory at Indiana in front of a sold-out Wilkinson Hall on Saturday night.
The Huskers (13-0, 4-0 Big Ten) are off to their best start to a season since beginning 20-0 in 2008. On Saturday against the Hoosiers, the Big Red was led by Merritt Beason, who had a career-high 22 kills and hit .400 to go with 12 digs.
Harper Murray added 17 kills and hit .368, while Lindsay Krause chipped in nine kills and hit .471. Andi Jackson added in eight kills, and Maggie Mendelson had four kills.
Nebraska heads to the state of Michigan next week for back-to-back matches. The Huskers will face Michigan State on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT). NU will then turn around to play at Michigan on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on BTN.
BRONCOS VOLLEYBALL SWEPT IN NORTH DAKOTA; SPLITS WEEKEND:
After a record setting night last Friday at Dakota Wesleyan, winning over the Hastings College volleyball team took on a tough Jamestown squad and fell in straight sets 20-25, 12-25, 21-25 on Saturday afternoon.
Hastings is now 8-9 (3-5) on the year and will be back in action Friday Oct. 6 as Dordt comes to town with first serve set for 7:30 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
STORM COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT HOME SATURDAY:
The Tri-City Storm’s comeback efforts on Saturday night fell short as the team dropped a 4-3 decision on home ice to the Sioux City Musketeers.
Vladislav Lukashevich, August Fallon, and Trevor Connelly each netted a goal during the matchup for Tri-City.
The Storm returns to action on Friday, October 6th, at 7:05pm CT in a home game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
UNK SOCCER EARNS TWO WEEKEND POINTS:
The Nebraska Kearney soccer team picked up its second point of the weekend, battling Northwest Missouri State to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
On Friday night, the Lopers (1-7-2, 0-1-2) tied Missouri Western, 1-1. This is UNK’s first league weekend without a setback since late in the 2019 campaign (win over Northeastern State, tie with Rogers State).
UNK hosts Central Oklahoma and Newman next weekend.
