KEARNEY — A citation was issued for careless driving after a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another, resulting in a rollover accident northeast of Kearney during the morning hours of Friday, Oct. 6.

Around 8 a.m., Gibbon Volunteer Fire and Rescue was dispatched near the intersection of Ravenna Road and 190th Road for the report of two vehicle rollover accident.

A second page would go out shortly after requesting more EMTs to the scene.

Sgt. Brad Hall with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said a black 2004 Toyota 4Runner SUV was northbound on Ravenna Rd. when it crossed the centerline a struck a 2020 maroon Dodge ProMaster van, which was southbound.

As a result of the accident, the Toyota entered the west ditch and landed on its roof, while the Dodge also entered the same ditch and came to rest on its left side.

On scene, Gibbon firefighters and EMTs worked to extract an occupant from the Dodge van. They were able to move them away from the wreck and into a waiting ambulance.

Sgt. Hall said the driver of the van would be transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota would be cited for careless driving, Hall said.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation and was assisted on scene by Gibbon Volunteer Fire and Rescue and CHI Good Samaritan ambulance services.
