HASTINGS – The Hastings College women’s soccer team picked up a 5-0 road victory over Mount Marty on Sunday afternoon.

It didn’t take long for Hastings to strike first as Eva Dunker got the scoring started in the 10th minute when a bad Lancer  pass landed at her feet in the box and she easily beat the keeper to the far post for the 1-0 lead.

What led to the second goal was great hustle on the part of Sara Pedroza as she beat the defender and the keeper to the ball. She then dropped it off the Jesse Chartier as she hit a perfect shot high enough to clear the defender and into the net for the 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

The lead carried into the 56th minute when Pedroza put some high pressure on the back line of the defense deflecting the ball to Miley Prine as she easily beat the keeper to the far post to make it 3-0.

Hastings struck again a few minutes later when Pedroza sent a nice pass into the box that Schubert got her left foot on and placed it inside the near post for the 4-0 lead.

The Lady Broncos were able to get some other players some playing time and this allowed two players to enter the record books with an assist and a goal. Makenna Lockhart would send in a corner kick where Payton Henshaw headed home her first collegiate goal while Lockhart collected her first career assist.

That would round out the scoring as Hastings took this one 5-0.

Hastings outshot the Lancers 18-to-2 and 14-to-1 in shots on goal in the win.

Hastings improves to 10-1-1 (5-1-1) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 11 hitting the road to take on Doane with kickoff set for 8:00 pm in Crete, NE.
