HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR HOME TEST WITH SPARTY:
The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team returns home after four straight road matches and will host Michigan State on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 13 Penn State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Nebraska (15-0, 6-0 Big Ten) is off to its best start to a season since beginning the 2008 season with a 20-0 record. Nebraska has been sharp offensively this season, hitting .293 to rank 11th nationally and second in the Big Ten.
Michigan State is 11-6 (3-3 Big Ten) with conference wins over Michigan, Northwestern and Rutgers. The Spartans lost to Nebraska (3-1) and Northwestern (3-2) last weekend.
Pregame begins at 5 PM on KGFW tonight.
LOPER VOLLEYBALL HOSTS TOUGH TEST FOR TOP OF CONFERENCE:
A chance to sit atop the conference awaits the No. 9 UNK Volleyball team tonight at the Health & Sports Center, as the 17-1 Lopers host No. 27 Central Missouri.
First serve is set for 6 PM this evening from the home of the Lopers. The Jennies have won six in a row and are 4-0 in true road matches entering tonight’s matchup.
UCM is 9-0 in conference play, taking down Washburn while UNK sits 8-1 having lost to the Ichabods back in September.
STORM FACE BACK-TO-BACK ROAD GAMES:
The Tri-City Storm is set for back-to-back road games this weekend against the Sioux Falls Stampede and Des Moines Buccaneers.
The Storm will battle the Stampede tonight at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, before traveling to face the Buccaneers tomorrow night at Buccaneer Arena. Puck drop for tonight’s game is set for 7:05pm CT.
STATE SOFTBALL PUSHED BACK TO SATURDAY MORNING:
The NSAA State Softball Semifinals will have to wait another day, as all action has once again been postponed to 11 AM on Saturday morning.
After speaking with the National Weather Service, due to continuing weather conditions and the forecast showing little to no improvement today, the games that were scheduled for today at the NSAA State Softball Championship are POSTPONED until 11 AM Saturday morning.
A delay had been in place until 12:30 PM earlier, but conditions did not improve to conduct play.
BEARCAT FOOTBALL SHUTS OUT ROCKETS:
Domination for Kearney from start to finish pushed the Bearcats to 7-1 on the season, with a feel-good 55-0 win over Lincoln Northeast at Seacrest Field.
The Bearcats had over 400 yards of rushing and held their shutout in the second half with mostly reserves seeing action.
Kearney (7-1) hosts Norfolk on Friday, Oct. 20 at Foster Field to wrap their regular season.

Day one of the Class A of the state championships saw Kearney’s number-one single Asher Saulsbury winning his first two matches of the tournament, both by scores of 6-0,6-0.
Kearney’s number one doubles team of Kyler Eklund and Drew Welch are on to the next round after an 8-0 win to start the tournament. Kearney’s also tied for first in the team battle so far, with 16 overall points.

FORT KEARNEY CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL TITLE EARNED BY EAGLES:
The FKC Volleyball tournament championship was claimed by the Overton Eagles in a five set thriller Thursday night at Kearney High School.
Overton (27-1) took sets two and three before SEM overcame extra rallies to tie the contest in the fourth set. The Eagles would outlast the Mustangs the final set, 15-9.
Amherst won the consolation matchup in the game prior over Pleasanton, winning 3-1.
LOPER TENNIS SURVIVES ELIMINATION:
Senior Jazmin Zamorano and freshman Maksym Kulish both stayed alive at the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup Friday morning in Rome, Ga.
Kulish (Ukraine) and Zamorano (Mexico) both lost by 6-2, 6-3 scores in Thursday’s first round. Thus, they each moved over to the consolation bracket today with Zamorano playing outside and Kulish’s match being indoors.
Zamorano got past freshman Selina Wu of St. Mary’s (Texas) University in straight sets; 6-2, 6-4. Less than five minutes later, Kulish outlasted senior Nico Ramirez of Biola (Calif.) University in three sets; 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
