LEXINGTON — A 27-year-old Lexington man was taken arrested after he attempted to evade law enforcement by hiding in the crawl space of a residence On Thursday, Oct. 26.
Around 8:20 a.m., officers with the Lexington Police Department observed a male subject outside a residence in the 500 block of West Walnut St.
Officers knew the subject had outstanding warrants and attempted to contact him but he immediately ran into the home, locking the door behind him, per the LPD.
The officers breached the door but were unable to locate the subject within the residence. An entrance was discovered in a bedroom to the basement and a crawl space of the home. Officers attempted to contact the subject but were unsuccessful.
Personnel with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrived on scene for support.
Lexington officers and K-9 handlers with NSP entered the basement and believed the subject was hiding inside of the crawl space.
Pepper balls were deployed, and the subject was taken into custody without further incident.
The subject was identified as Luis A. Ceja-Ruiz, 27, of Lexington.
Ceja-Ruiz was booked into the Dawson County for jail for the outstanding warrant of obstructing a police officer and driving under suspension. He was also arrested for resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
It was also learned that Ceja-Ruiz was currently out on bond for felony charges in Buffalo County.
The case is an ongoing investigation, according to the LPD.
