KEARNEY – The City of Kearney held a ribbon cutting for the Kearney Regional Airport terminal on Wednesday, Nov. 1
City leaders, employees, and community members gathered at the entrance of the terminal after many months of work.
City officials in attendance included Mayor Stan Clouse, Kearney Chamber of Commerce President Derek Rusher, City Manager Mike Morgan, and City council members, Tami Moore, Jonathan Nikkila, and Randy Buschkoetter.
Construction on the $6 million project started in October 2021. The project was made possible from a Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Upgrades to the terminal include more seating space for passengers, new state-of-the-art equipment for security checks, expanded space for TSA screening, brand new baggage carousel, and additional family restrooms. The expansion was also created with the future in mind, when Kearney hopes to bring 75-seat planes, the new space will be able to accommodate the growth.[UNSURE ON WORDING]
