KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Register of Deeds has offered a new service to alert residents when they could be the target of property fraud.
“As fraudulent activity continues to grow across the nation, scamming people out of money and homes. Property Fraud Alert is a service Buffalo County offers to notify citizens when a recording was made under their name,” per the Register of Deeds.
These notifications can catch fraudulent activity quickly giving real estate owners peace-of-mind that their property is being monitored.
To be proactive, Kellie John, Register of Deeds of Buffalo County has made this free service available to everyone who owns real estate in Buffalo County.
As a subscriber to “Property Fraud Alert,” service, residents will receive an alert anytime a document is recorded with their name as a party. This gives people the opportunity to confirm whether the document is legitimate or if a potential fraudulent act has occurred, and they need to acquire legal counsel.
If someone files a lien or any document matching a resident’s name without information them, they can receive a notification via – email, text, or voicemail. Residents can choose how they want to be notified when they sign up.
Residents can receive a notification if they have a document legally prepared and recorded. These are valid recordings, but residents are notified because it matches their names that are entered.
This is a free service, and the information is not shared or sold.
