Hastings College MBB // HC Broncos Athletics

YORK – The Hastings College men’s basketball team used a huge second half to defeat York 86-71 on Tuesday night inside the Freeman Center.

After trailing by as many as nine in the first half, the Broncos battled back to trail by just four going into halftime.

The Panthers came right out and got a Dwight Glover three to open the half but the Broncos countered with a Reggie Thomas and one. Tyrique McMurrin then drained a mid-range jumper followed by another tough Thomas layup.

After York regained the lead, Grady Corrigan hit a layup and then Thomas struck again with a tough and one to put the Broncos in front 47-4 with 16:25 to go.

The teams then traded baskets for the next few minutes until Thomas drained a three and then Nolan Sughroue hit a short fall away jumper to put Hastings up 58-52 with 13:18 left to play.

The Panthers got back to within four but Thomas drained a jumper and the Sughroue buried a three as Hastings now had its largest lead at 66-57 with 10:10 to go

York did get the lead down to six at one point but a quick 7-0 run started by another Sughroue jumper followed by a layup which led to a Panther timeout. After York missed a layup, McMurrin finished the little run with an and one as Hastings now led 79-66.

Hastings eventually pulled away for the 86-71 victory.

Thomas led the way with a game high 23 points on 6-of-15 shooting and was 10-for-12 from the charity stripe. He finished with a double-double while pulling down 12 rebounds including seven offensive boards. Grady Corrigan finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting while Sughroue added 12 points off the bench by shooting 5-for-7 from the floor.
