KEARNEY – One of the top prospects at the Arizona high school basketball landscape is transferring to join the Kearney High School Bearcat boys basketball program.
Jacob Webber – a 6-4 Class of 2026 forward – is set to transfer to Kearney, Neb. after a new job opportunity opened up for his family, according to Gregg Rosenberg of Prep Hoops Arizona.
As a freshman, Webber was highly touted and rated the No. 9 prospect in the Class of 2026 in Arizona. The sophomore has already received a Division I scholarship to Illinois-Chicago. Last year for Scottsdale Christian Academy out of Phoenix, AZ, the electric freshman touted a 52 point game performance for his career high in scoring. He had touted a 46 point performance the day prior.
Through fourteen games in the season last year, Webber averaged 26.8 points and 4.6 rebounds.
The sophomore joins an already talented and experienced Bearcat team, led by rising junior Ben Johnson who averaged 15 PPG and 9.0 rebound per contest last year. Kearney – led by head coach Drake Beranek – also return returning starters Karter Lee, Asher Endorf, and Colt Straka.
Because Webber is transferring into the state of Nebraska – and not from another area school or team – he is immediately eligible per the NSAA transfer guidelines.
Kearney’s season begins on Nov. 21 with an exhibition matchup against Northwest in Grand Island, as the season opener pits the Bearcats against Elkhorn South in the Early Bird Classic Tournament at Kearney High School on Nov. 30.
