KEARNEY — The 54th annual Gateway Farm Expo was hosted in Kearney this week with the event kicking off on Wednesday Nov. 15.
Gateway Farm Expo is the longest running farm show in Nebraska and draws thousands of visitors each year, according to the event’s website.
The Gateway Farm Expo has long been held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney.
There were over 400 exhibitors that took part in this year’s event.
There were various speaker sessions, on Wednesday this included “Source: Caffeine for the Soil,” presented by Amy Harsch of Prairie Fire Ag Solutions.
“Harsch owns Prairie Fire Ag Solutions with her husband Kevin. Prairie Fire Ag specializes in irrigation and nutrient management and believes that all growers should have access to solutions that fit individual farm and field needs, not a one size fits all. They serve the greater central Nebraska area and are a proud Sound Ag dealer and are honored to partner with them on this presentation. Amy is active on their farm where all the solutions they promote have been vetted in their own operation,” per the website.
The expo is scheduled in late November, after harvest, allowing farmers and ranchers time to have a good handle on their production and operation goals for the next year.
“The expo is strategically positioned to maximize opportunities to make sales and promote agricultural technology, equipment and operation inputs,” per the event website.
Kearney Farm Expo, Inc., a nonprofit organization, volunteers from local businesses keep the show running successfully. Show proceeds are used to promote Gateway Farm Expo and its exhibitors.
“Gateway Farm Expo prides itself on promoting agricultural education in communities across Nebraska. Students involved in 4-H, Agribusiness clubs, FFA and collegiate education in agriculture benefit from Gateway scholarships and donations,” the expo website states.
