GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island Man charged with death of a child, has taken a plea deal.
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, Ryan Rivera-Meister,27, pleaded no contest to attempted child abuse, reducing his charge from intentional child abuse in exchange for his plea.
The charge is a Class II Felony Offense that carries a maximum possible prison sentence of 50 years.
Charges trace back to August 2016, where Rivera-Meister was babysitting his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son, who died from head and stomach injuries.
After being charged, Rivera-Meister fled to Guatemala until being extradited back in March 2022.
Rivera-Meister is set to be sentenced February 26, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
