KEARNEY — A fire that damaged a Kearney home during the week of Thanksgiving is believed to have been accidental in nature.
At 9:02 a.m. on Nov. 22, the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 90 Central Avenue on the south side of Kearney for the report of a structure fire.
Arriving on scene, firefighters found heavy smoke emanating from the home. Crews pulled hose lines and applied water on the fire. Crews were quickly able to contain the fire and conducted a search of the residence.
No occupants were found during the search.
The home sustained extensive fire damage in two rooms and heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the origin of the fire. The case is still under investigation but is believed to have been accidental in nature.
The KVFD was assisted on scene by Good Samaritan EMS and Kearney Police Department.
