GRAND ISLAND — It’s an exciting participation year for Slumberland Furniture in Making Homes For The Holidays.
At some point everyone has experienced sleeping on the ground or hard floor for a night or two but how would you feel if you slept on the floor every single night? How might that affect your performance every day? How might that put a child behind, performance at school, with friends, in life?
Slumberland’s program is based on the belief that a home isn’t a home without a bed. This year Slumberland teamed up with several schools, Telemundo and The Safe Center to find at risk kids sleeping on the floor.
These children will receive a brand-new mattress, box spring and frame. Additional gifts given are sheets from The Caring Woman’s Jr. Club, Teddy bears from the Tri-City Storm, gift cards from Hy-Vee and homemade quilts from the Piecemaker’s Club located at Third City Christian Church.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, starting at 5 p.m., volunteers along with the owner, employees and representatives from the organizations will gather for a couple Christmas Carols and a brief thank you presentation for all involved. This kicks off loading and delivering over 50 mattress sets to families in need.
“This will be our 26th year participating in Making Homes For The Holidays with over 1,170 beds given. It is by far the best day of the year, and it is why we are in business. Giving back,” said Gayle Bonnes.
At Slumberland we donate more than 10 percent of our profits to organizations that assist families and youth within the community we serve.
If you would like to participate in loading or delivery of the mattress sets, feel free to reach out to Gayle Bonnes at 308-381-4829. Employees are providing a soup dinner for all volunteers and organizations involved.
Merry Christmas!
