KEARNEY — Kearney High School is excited to announce a valuable learning opportunity for its seniors. On December 6, 2023, students at Kearney High School will participate in a Mock Interview Day, hosted at the Scott D. Morris Institute. This event is designed to help students enhance their professional communication skills and prepare for their future interviews and conversations, whether it be for scholarships, job opportunities, college admissions, and more.

This Mock Interview Day wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of 50 dedicated business professionals from the Kearney and Grand Island areas. These volunteers will spend the day conducting mock interviews with the students, imparting their knowledge and expertise to empower the next generation of professionals.

One of the primary advantages of having local business professionals as interviewers is the opportunity for students to develop essential professional communication skills. Furthermore, this event serves as a networking opportunity where meaningful connections are forged. In some cases, these connections have led to future internships, job placements, scholarships, college admissions, and other opportunities for the students. This initiative not only benefits the students but also strengthens the workforce and community in Kearney.

The mock interviews will follow a structured format, with approximately 10 minutes allocated for questions and answers, followed by 5-10 minutes of valuable feedback. This immediate feedback will provide students with initial observations and constructive suggestions to help them improve their interview skills.

In addition to the mock interviews, Kearney High School seniors have been dedicating their Bearcat Time (homeroom/advisory time) to prepare for this event. During Bearcat Time sessions, students receive guidance on creating resumes and cover letters, learning how to effectively answer common interview questions, and understanding appropriate interview attire.

This Mock Interview Day is a testament to Kearney High School’s commitment to the holistic development of its students, preparing them not just academically but also professionally for the challenges they will face in their future endeavors. It is a collaborative effort between the school and the local business community to nurture the talent and potential of Kearney’s youth.
