GOODWELL, OKLA. – The Hastings College women’s basketball team had no issues in its 74-27 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Bronco defense gave the Aggies all kinds of fits in the first half as OPSU was just 2-for-28 from the floor over the first 20 minutes of the game. This allowed Hastings to open up a huge lead and never look back.

After the game was tied 2-2 as both teams came out cold, Miriam Miller would give the offense a boost off the bench getting back-to-back layups to give HC the 6-2 lead. As the Aggies struggled on the offensive end, Hastings began to get hot as Kiernan Paulk would hit a mid-range jumper. Then Mariyah Avila would find her shot with a jumper followed by a three as Hastings now led 13-2.

Following a timeout by OPSU, Rachel Goodon picked up a steal and then made a jumper. Riley Clavel then picked up a steal which led to another Avila jumper as Hastings now led 17-2 late in the first quarter. Avila finished off the quarter with a three as Hastings held a commanding 20-2 lead through one quarter.

That was all she wrote in this one as Hastings would lead 33-4 at halftime and led 50-4 before Panhandle State finally found some offense as the Lady Broncos came away with the 74-27 victory.

Avila finished with a career high 30 points as she was 11-for-17 from the floor and went 8-for-11 from behind the arc as she tied the school record for made 3-pointers in a game. The record was set by Carly Stucky back in 2004.

Goodon and Paulk each finished with seven points while Miller added eight points off the bench. Goodon finished with a career high 13 rebounds.

Hastings finished the game shooting 42.6 percent (29-for-68) while holding the Aggies to just 15.2 percent (10-for-66). HC also dominated on the boards pulling down 50 compared to 39 for OPSU.

Hastings improves to 5-7 (2-5) on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Jan. 2 as Bellevue comes to town with tipoff set for 2:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
