NEBRASKA – The 2023 Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament begins its action today for first round games prior to the start of the NSAA regulated moratorium that kicks off tomorrow.
The Bearcat boys earned the top overall seed in their bracket, giving them a first round bye and no competition until Thursday, Dec. 28 when the moratorium relaxes.
The Kearney girls basketball team notched the seventh seed, putting them in a rematch this afternoon against tenth seeded Lincoln High School. Both teams met up back on Dec. 7 at Lincoln High, granting Kearney’s first win in the 46-30 victory.
Pregame today is set for 3:15 PM with the opening tipoff from Kearney High School at 3:30 PM. The winner travels to No. 2 Lincoln Pius X on Thursday, Dec. 28 for a 2 PM tilt.

Meanwhile, both Grand Island Senior High basketball teams are in action today to start their HAC Tournament runs.
The Islander girls head to Lincoln Southeast for a 3:30 PM matchup with the Knights, while the ninth-seeded boys travel to Lincoln High for a 3:30 PM tipoff.
If the girls earn the win, they would travel to fourth seeded Lincoln North Star on Thursday, Dec. 28. Should the boys win, it sets up another Kearney/Grand Island contest at Kearney High School next Thursday with the top-seeded Bearcats.
