NEBRASKA – Nebraska football legends were added to the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame class on Tuesday, as Danny Woodhead – a former Chadron State football legend, North Platte High School three-sport athlete, and NFL veteran – was an added piece to this year’s class.

Woodhead was a three-time first team All-American for the Eagles, ending his college football tenure as the all-time rushing leader with 7,962 rushing yards. He was a two-time Harlon Hill Trophy recipient as he still holds nearly every rushing/all-purpose record in Division II, RMAC, and Chadron State history. Woodhead was also a three-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Year lead the Eagles to two RMAC titles and consecutive 12-win seasons.

As a North Platte Bulldog, Woodhead was a three-sport athlete, leading the Bulldogs to some of their best seasons on the gridiron in the past three decades. He is a record holder for numerous records in North Platte history in football, basketball, and track and field.

Woodhead’s NFL tenure began on a rocky path, going undrafted to the New York Jets in 2008. He was one of America’s favorites during his appearances on the HBO documentary series “Hard Knocks”. His popularity continued on the field, eventually switching to the New England Patriots while also spending time with the Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers.

Woodhead wrapped his professional career by retiring in 2018 with 2238 career rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, 2,698 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns.
