Alex Straatmann files for Kearney City Council

KEARNEY-Alex Straatmann filed today to be a candidate for Kearney City Council. Straatmann is a Kearney native and a graduate of Kearney High School, UNK, and the Texas Tech School of Law.

Straatmann is the Chief Compliance Officer at UNK. He previously served 16 years on the staff of U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith (NE-03). He also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. From 2015-23, he was elected to and served two terms on the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education, including two years as president. He currently serves as president of the KPS Foundation Board and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce.

Straatman stated “It would be an honor and privilege for me to continue in service to my hometown. I look forward to serving the City of Kearney with the same perseverance and zeal I served on the KPS Board of Education.”

Straatmann and his wife, Dr. Kim Andresen (also a UNK graduate), live in Kearney.
