GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man was arrested for protection order violation after he barricaded himself in a basement with access to a baseball bat.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, officers with the Grand Island Police Department responded to 216 E. 8th St. in reference to a protection order violation.

It was advised that the protected party is the homeowner at the address and there was a male suspect in her basement being disruptive.

Arriving at the address, officers would attempt to contact the suspect. The male would then barricade himself in a basement room with access to a metal baseball bat, he would refuse to listen to officer’s demands to exit the room.

Eventually, the male would come out of the room and contacted officers. Police say a record check would identify the male as Nicholas Valenzuela, the son of the protected party.

A further check would confirm that Valenzuela has two prior convictions for protection order violations.

Valenzuela was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
