KEARNEY — A fire broke out at the Centennial Park Apartments on Tuesday morning, firefighters responded amid wind chills that were – 26 degrees.
Around 8:20 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the Centennial Park Apartments, 1000 4th Avenue, for the report of smoke coming from an apartment.
Arriving on scene, the fire was fully involved, with black smoke billowing from one of the apartment complexes.
The Kearney Police Department arrived on scene and blocked 11th St. and 4th Ave for safety.
The cause of the fire not available on scene.
“Though saddened by loss of property and belongings from the fire, we are glad to report there have not been any reports of injuries related to this fire,” the Kearney Police Department reported.
Not only did first responders have to battle the fire, but a Wind Chill Warning was also still in place across central Nebraska. The actual air temperature at the time of the fire was – 9 degrees, wind the wind chill was – 26.
The fire occurs two days after the KVFD responded to a structure fire that killed one person at a B Ave. residence during the early morning hours of Sunday.
