KEARNEY — In a heartfelt gathering at the Kearney Public Schools (KPS) Board of Education special meeting, the district bid a fond farewell to Dave Brandt, honoring his remarkable contributions and dedication. Mr. Brandt, who has been an integral part of the KPS Board since 2020, has stepped down to embrace a new role as a science teacher at Kearney High School.
Dave Brandt’s tenure on the Board, spanning from January 2021 to January 2024, was marked by significant contributions and steadfast commitment to enhancing educational experiences for the students of Kearney. In light of this transition, the Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathy Gifford as the new Secretary and member of the Committee on American Civics. Steve Gaasch will take over Mr. Brandt’s responsibilities on the KPS Foundation Board. The Personnel Committee will now comprise Drew Blessing, Paul Hazard, and Steve Gaasch, who are poised to continue the Board’s work with renewed vigor and insight.
KPS is also excited to initiate the process of appointing a new member to the Board of Education. Starting January 31, interested candidates can find the application on the Kearney Public School’s website. The application period will remain open until noon on February 14. The Board will conduct a thorough vetting of candidates on February 15-16, followed by interviews with selected applicants on February 19-20.
