Grand Island State Senator Ray Aguilar Files for Re-Election

By Mark Reid Jan 29, 2024 | 12:49 PM

Grand Island, NE – Grand Island State Senator Ray Aguilar officially filed Friday, Jan. 26 with Secretary of State Bob Evnen to seek re-election to represent the people of District 35 in the Nebraska Legislature.

Aguilar stated he’s running for re-election to build on his positive record of getting things done for the hard-working people of Grand Island. He voted to invest in our children’s future and give families more options so their kids get an education that fits their needs, protect the culture of life, supported law enforcement and veterans and reduced taxes.

Senator Aguilar voted for the largest tax relief plan in Nebraska’s history and co-sponsored legislation to cut and reform our tax code, including property, business, and income taxes.

“I voted for the creation of the Property Tax Relief Fund to help lower the property tax burden on seniors, veterans, small businesses and working families and for tax reform bills that resulted in $1.7 billion in property tax relief, a 100% state income tax exemption for military retirement benefits, and a 50% state income tax exemption for social security benefits by 2025.”

Working with Veteran’s organizations, community leaders and the Governor, Aguilar introduced Legislative Bill 80 that secures $8 million dollars to build to the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Grand Island.

Aguilar said among other things, he intends to keep advocating for property tax relief, fighting for quality education for students in Nebraska, and giving veterans and taxpayers in his district a strong voice from their Senator.

Senator Aguilar is Chairman of the Executive Board of the Nebraska Legislature and serves on the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee and the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. He previously served as the State Senator from District 35 from 1999 to 2008 and was re-elected again in 2020. A registered Republican, Ray has been married to his wife Susan for 50 years and has nine children.
