KEARNEY — On Monday, Jan. 29, 2024 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Kearney Police Department investigated a phone message left with Meadowlark Elementary School related to a child custody dispute.
As a precautionary step, Kearney Public Schools responded by following the Standard Response Protocol and placed Meadowlark Elementary and Sunrise Middle School into Secure status while KPD further looked into the matter.
Secure status means the school keeps students and staff inside the building and does not allow any visitors to enter the school. KPD has had contact with the individual involved in this incident and it has been determined that no threat exists related to the phone message left at Meadowlark Elementary.
This matter was closed and the schools were released from their Secure status.
