KEARNEY – It was a simple day at the office for the Kearney Girls basketball team, handling its business and firing on all cylinders as the Bearcats took down winless Omaha Bryan 66-3 on Friday night at home. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney had taken the brunt of a rough schedule stretch, dropping three consecutive games beginning a week prior when hosting a top-rated Lincoln North Star. The Bearcats then battled but fell to talented Bellevue West, before falling flat late against Lincoln Pius X on Tuesday. In much need of a “get right game”, Kearney had that and more on Friday night.
Omaha Bryan had forfeited nearly two full seasons from 2021-2023, leading to an 0-14 start to this year. The Bears made the trip to Kearney, as the Bearcats quickly pushed ahead to build a significant lead.

Nine different Kearney players scored in the first quarter, while 12 of the 13 varsity players that suited up earned points in the contest. That included Kiara Dutenhoffer, making her return to the team after sustaining an injury back in the fall semester that held her out through most of the season. Dutenhoffer was a spark plug for the time, earning cheers and ovations each time she checked in and scored.
The Bearcats put up 25 points in the first quarter while adding 27 in the second, earning a running clock heading into the second half. Bryan would add points in the third quarter, but was shut out in the first, second, and fourth periods. The game ended in a 66-3 win for the hometown Bearcats.
