ELM CREEK — A fatal accident took place on Highway 30 near Elm Creek during the afternoon hours of Friday, Feb. 9.
Around 2:13 p.m., the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate two vehicle crash which occurred two miles east of Elm Creek, at the intersection of Highway 30 and Cessna Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, a westbound sedan crossed the centerline to avoid an uninvolved vehicle that was stopped, waiting to turn south on Cessna Rd.
The sedan struck, head on, an eastbound full sized pickup truck and both vehicles ended up in the south ditch.
The driver and lone occupant of the westbound sedan was declared deceased on scene. The pickup had a driver and one passenger. The driver was treated and released on scene. The passenger was transported for minor injuries.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kearney Police/Buffalo County Sheriff Fatality Accident Investigation Team (FAIT), Elm Creek Volunteer Rural Fire and Rescue, CHI Good Samaritan paramedics, Buffalo County Attorney’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
The investigation continues and the next of kin have not been notified.
