GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island Central Catholic has announced the hiring of Trey Salinas as its next head volleyball coach, with his wife Tina Salinas serving as the Associate Head Coach.
Salinas was the head women’s volleyball coach at the University of Illinois Springfield since 2015 before relocating to Grand Island in January 2024.
He has more than ten years of collegiate Division I and Division II experience, serving as the associate and assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College, Metro State Univeristy of Denver, and Bishop Machebuef High School.
Trey’s wife, Salina, is an Ord High School alum and was an All-American with Hastings College. She has also coached a UIS, South Point High School, Bishop Machebuef High School, and at the club level.
Salinas replaces the legendary Sharon Zavala, who announced her retirement at the end of the 2023 volleyball season.
