ELWOOD — The Gosper County Sheriff’s Office would like to provide this PSA to our residents regarding a current scam being perpetrated within Gosper County and the surrounding areas.

The scammers are impersonating the Dish Network Company or their employees and are making cold calls out to residents on the premise that you need or are eligible for an “upgrade” of your satellite system or programming.

The scammers then request the social security number and banking account information from the individual that they have called.

As always, please do not ever give any banking information or personal information (including social security numbers, driver’s license information, date of birth, etc.,) to any individual or company that you have not positively identified.

Always verify who you are speaking with prior to offering any personal or financial information. If the scammers offer that you call their offices for verification, always ensure that you have the actual telephone number for the company you need to contact for verification.

Do not use the telephone number they have provided to you unless you are absolutely certain that is the actual corporation or company contact information.

If you ever have any questions about any potential scam or suspicious criminal activity, please contact the Gosper County Sheriff’s Office prior to offering any personal information or payment.
