KEARNEY — The Kearney Public Schools (KPS) Board of Education is excited to announce the appointment of Amy Barth to the board, effective immediately, serving through December 2024.

As a dedicated KPS parent, respected business owner, and an active participant in Kearney’s community life, Amy Barth brings a wealth of experience, commitment, and innovative vision to the board.

Amy Barth, the proprietor of Just for Ladies Fitness and a part-time audit manager with Contryman Associates, has been deeply involved in various community activities. Her roles on the Collage Board of Directors and Yanney Heritage Foundation, along with her volunteer work with organizations such as Junior Achievement and United Way, underscore her dedication to fostering community strength and educational excellence.

Steve Gaasch, President of the KPS Board of Education, expressed enthusiasm about Barth’s selection from a highly qualified pool of 12 applicants, noting, “We were faced with a difficult choice given the caliber of candidates, all of whom demonstrated a profound commitment to the prosperity of our students, staff, schools, and community. Amy’s unique blend of professional experience, community involvement, and a clear vision for the future of KPS distinguished her as the ideal choice.”

Barth fills the vacancy left by Dave Brandt, who resigned in January to take on a new role as a science teacher at Kearney High School. She will serve the remainder of Brandt’s term, with plans to pursue election for the 2025-2029 term, aiming to continue her impactful work on the board.

Upon her appointment, Barth shared her enthusiasm and outlined her priorities, stating, “It is an honor to join the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education. I am deeply invested in ensuring our policies reflect the values of our families and community. My vision includes expanding our educational offerings to incorporate niche disciplines such as social media, graphic design, engineering, and artificial intelligence, addressing the need for additional schools to accommodate growth, and prioritizing the safety and well-being of our students.”

Barth’s first Board of Education meeting will be Monday, March 11, 2024, at 5:30 pm at the KPS Administration Building, 320 West 24th Street, Kearney.
