KEARNEY — Kearney High School is proud to announce that Junior student, Maddison Mather, has been distinguished as one of the recipients of the prestigious Nebraska Young Artist Awards. This annual award celebrates the exceptional talents of Nebraska high school juniors in various disciplines, including art, music, dance, theatre, and film and emerging media, spotlighting the vibrant creativity and potential within the state’s youth.

For over a quarter of a century, the Nebraska Young Artist Awards have recognized the artistic achievements of young artists, with selections made by the esteemed faculty of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln based on the exemplary quality of the students’ art. Maddison’s recognition comes as a result of her outstanding artwork, a colored pencil self-portrait, created in her Art 2 class at KHS, showcasing her extraordinary skill and artistic vision.

Maddison, along with other award recipients, is invited to partake in a day full of activities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on April 5, 2023. This exclusive event provides a glimpse into the life of an arts student at Nebraska, culminating in an awards ceremony where Maddison will be formally recognized with a certificate and a special gift in honor of her achievement. Furthermore, students honored with the Nebraska Young Artist Award who choose to enroll at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and declare a major in the Hixson-Lied College will be eligible for a scholarship, opening doors to further educational opportunities in the arts.

Maddison’s art teacher at Kearney High School, Natasha Hahn, expressed her admiration and support for Maddison’s accomplishments, stating, “Receiving the Nebraska Young Artist Award is a testament to Mads’ hard work, skill, and creativity. I look forward to seeing what Mads accomplishes next year as a senior at Kearney High School and supporting them!”

Kearney High School and its community are immensely proud of Maddison Mather for receiving this esteemed award and are excited to see her future contributions to the arts. Congratulations, Maddison, on this remarkable achievement!
