WOOD RIVER — A Wood River woman who lived at 107 E. 11th St. where a March 2 explosion occurred had filed for a protection order against her husband.
Rudel Zinsser Beaufait filed for a protection order against Craig Zinsser Beaufait because of domestic abuse, according to the affidavit for a protection order filed Feb 15 in Hall County District Court.
She filed a motion to dismiss the protection order on March 4 because Craig Zinsser Beaufait was dead.
“This request is being done due to the defendant being deceased,” the motion to dismiss said.
In the protection order affidavit, Rudel Zinsser Beaufait said:
Her husband was 50 and worked as a truck driver. They had been married for about seven years.
“I have seen a change in Craig’s behavior and have been scared as I know he has two guns he would keep in the house. He would emotionally abuse me and verbally abuse me anyway he could get to me,” she wrote. “I filed for divorce on Nov. 8, 2023.”
“I don’t know what Craig is planning. I know he left the house with two guns and has had mental health episodes and breakdowns. I am scared for my safety at my residence and at my place of work.”
“I am asking for the protection order to be approved so Craig can stay away from me and leave me alone,” she wrote. “Craig is a truck driver, and his whereabouts are uncertain as I do not know where he could be or even come to my address. …I am also unsure what will happen after the divorce and that scares me.”
