HASTINGS — Winter is not done with the area yet. A Winter Weather Advisory continues across south central Nebraska until 12 p.m.
Snow and blowing snow have impacted the morning commute and total snow accumulations of one to five inches are possible from a line generally south of Loup City, Grand Island and York.
Winds out of the north are gusting up to 25-35 mph which is resulting in periods of reduced visibility.
“Plan on slippery road conditions and periods of reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday morning commute,” the National Weather Service – Hastings stated.
NWS Hastings noted that out west, 15 inches of snowfall fell in North Platte yesterday.
“Travel is very difficult in southwest Nebraska this morning after the heavy snowfall,” the Nebraska Stated Patrol noted.
Interstate 80 eastbound is closed between Ogallala and Gothenburg, the westbound lane is closed from Kearney to Paxton. Highway 30 is closed throughout the area as well.
Luckily the snow will not stick around for long, and should melt by the weekend as highs climb back the upper 40s and 50s on Saturday and back to 60 by Sunday.
