KEARNEY — Due to current ground conditions, access to today’s Kearney SportsPlex Topping Out Celebration at 2 p.m., has changed and will now occur north of the construction site, along Talmadge Street.
Attendees are encouraged to follow the directional signage that has been placed at the event. City staff will also be directing traffic and assisting with parking, which will be staged along the west end of Talmadge Street and 16th Avenue.
The City of Kearney is excited to announce a “Topping Out” celebration planned for Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kearney SportsPlex. The event will occur at the construction site of the Kearney SportsPlex, located at 1415 Younes Drive.
A “Topping Out” celebration occurs when the final structural beam is raised into place, completing the building’s frame, and marking a significant project milestone. Weather permitting, a flag or an evergreen tree will be brought to the highest point of the construction site via a beam signed by the project team, to symbolize the topping out.
Members of the public are invited to attend this celebration. The east end of Talmadge Street, near 11th Avenue, will open temporarily for the event. For more information about this ceremony, please contact Lauren Brandt at (308) 455-7135.
