HASTINGS — A Fire Weather Watch that was issued yesterday has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning due to the critical fire weather conditions that will be in place across central Nebraska on Thursday, April 11.
The National Weather Service – Hastings said the warning will begin at 12 p.m. and last through 8 p.m. this evening.
The watch was upgraded to a warning due to strong northwest winds blowing up to 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. Relative humidity could be as low as 15 percent.
NWS Hastings notes that any fires that ignite will have the ability to spread rapidly and caution should be taken if engaging in any activity that could result in a fire starting.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior,” NWS Hastings states.
There will be additional fire weather concerns throughout the weekend as the dry and breezy conditions continue.
