HASTINGS — Joshua Fredrick is currently running for the Nebraska Legislature’s District 33 seat.

Fredrick started off his introductions by saying he is a veteran of the U.S. Army and noted his removal from service had to do with his fight for religious liberties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When asked about his experience he would bring to the role, Fredrick said, “I had a pretty good time saying ‘no’ to the Biden Administration…we have a lot of people in the Legislature who compromised a majority of our constitution rights.”

Fredrick said that if core constitutional liberties are compromised on, then those liberties no longer exist.

Continuing about his experience, Fredrick said, “I can read, I can understand, I’ve got a solid education at UNL, was private schooled and homeschooled…I’m eager to get there and express some solid values as opposed to compromise.”

Fredrick spoke about his motivation for running for the District 33 seat, which is currently represented by Senator Steve Halloran, who is term limited, having been elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020.

Fredrick said during the COVID-19 pandemic, people were “inundated with government tyranny on the local level,” and said there needs to be a strong resurgence of maintaining individual liberties.

Asked about his top priority issues if elected, Fredrick said his number one issue is, “pro-life,” adding that what occurred during the last session regarding the six-week heartbeat bill was compromised to a 12-week abortion ban.

“Any compromise we have when it comes to the lives of the pre-born is a bloody and terrible compromise that they pay for with their lives. Our first inherent and enabled right is life.”

“If left unfettered, the liberal progressive movement would have on-demand taxpayer funded abortion up to and exceeding birth. My job is to stop this on our state level,” Fredrick’s campaign website states.

Fredrick said his beliefs are rooted in his faith and said there must be voices for those yet to be born.

Fredrick also wants to see property tax removed and supports the EPIC tax proposal that is on the ballot, which would eliminate all income, property, and inheritance taxes and replace them with a statewide consumption tax of 7.5 percent.

Fredrick also wishes to see a constitutional amendment that would support the right to refuse medication. He said many people were penalized during the COVID-19 pandemic for not receiving a vaccination.

Speaking to his communication with constituents, Fredrick said state senators have to tell people how they are going to vote and then be held accountable by the members of the district.

He added he would like to see the rule about secret voting in the Nebraska Legislature removed.

Fredrick said the most important thing governing his decision making is upholding the Constitution, followed by listening to constituents. “Regardless of your placement in society, your values and opinions matter,” he said.

When asked about the role of government in the lives of citizens, Fredrick said, “There is only prescribed reason for government to exist – to uphold and maintain the rights of the people, anything more is unconstitutional.”

“What we have seen is an intrusion of the government into the individual lives, where they push what they want,” Fredrick said, “We need to deregulate Nebraska, we need to deregulate the federal government from the individual level.”

When asked what envisions for the future, Fredrick spoke again on abortion. “The constituents of Nebraska abortion, its child murder.” He said there needs to be a separation between those who “advocate the murder of babies.”

He said the fight against abortion is his number one priority.

Fredrick said next would be the repeal of property taxes through the EPIC option and said there will be economic growth, “like the Industrial Revolution,” if it is enacted.

Fredrick said his is a Christ-centered campaign.

In conclusion, Fredrick said, “It is upon us in a commission from Christ to testify to the truth…speak to your friends your neighbors, let them know the truth of the matter…we have to testify to the truth.”

“I look forward to being the voice for Nebraskans, the representative of District 33 that ignites the fires of passion to promote our conservative values and carry it forward as the next generation. We are the conservative legacy,” his campaign website states.
