HASTINGS — Shortly after noon on Wednesday, April 17, the Nebraska Department of Transportation and their contractor, IES Commercial of Holdrege set up the work zone traffic control for the intersection as planned (allowing through movement for traffic on Burlington Avenue, allowing right turns from Burlington Avenue onto 12th Street, and allowing right turns from 12th onto Burlington).

Shortly after the work zone traffic control was in-place, IES observed many unsafe traffic movements, so the plan was revised. The current plan has 12th Street on both sides of Burlington Avenue closed to all traffic while the signals are out-of-service.

The contractor believes they can complete the traffic signal upgrade and have the intersection operating in temporary flash mode by April 24 or 25. That will allow the NDOT traffic signal engineers to program the new traffic signal controller and open the intersection before the weekend.
