LINCOLN — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 18 impaired drivers from the road during a weekend campaign focused on drunk and drugged driving. One of the arrests was for driving under the influence of drugs.
“Impaired driving can take multiple forms,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Every time you get behind the wheel, you should be sober. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs endangers yourself and everyone else on the road.”
The effort, which ran from Friday, April 19, through Sunday, April 21, coincided with a national campaign organized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In addition to the 18 arrests for driving under the influence, troopers also cited drivers for speeding (286), driving under suspension (26), minor in possession (5), open alcohol container (14), no seat belt (9), and improper child restraint (7). Troopers also assisted 78 motorists in need of help over the weekend.
“As the summer travel season approaches, now is the time to get into the safe driving mindset,” said Colonel Bolduc. “Make your mind up now that you’ll always have a plan for a sober driver after summer parties, community events, and family gatherings.”
