FARGO SWEEPS STORM; END TRI-CITY SEASON IN KEARNEY:

The Tri-City Storm’s season ended Wednesday night at the Viaero Center in a 5-3 loss to the Fargo Force. Tri-City dropped three games in the Best-Of-Five series, and was eliminated from the postseason.

It was the final game for head coach Anthony Noreen, who moved on to the University of Miami Ohio following the end of his Storm tenure.

Next season is the Storm’s 25th anniversary season, with season tickets on sale now.

BEARCAT BASEBALL’S BIG INNING BLASTS LINCOLN NORTHWEST:

The Bearcat Baseball team rallied on an eight run third inning to shut down Lincoln Northwest for a 12-2 Senior Day victory at Memorial Field.

Kearney (14-11) won with twelve runs on eleven hits with two errors, while the Falcons dropped scoring two runs on four hits and one error.

Jacob Hansen earned his first career win in his first start of the season with six innings pitched, allowing four hits, two earned runs, and two strikeouts.

The Bearcats have their first day off from competition today before hitting the road on Friday afternoon to take on Hastings at Duncan Field. Pregame coverage begins at 4:15 PM with first pitch at 4:30 PM.

UNK FOOTBALL READIES FOR LOPER BACKERS BANQUET:

The 14th Annual Loper Football Backers dinner and scholarship fundraiser will be held tonight at the Younes Conference Center North.

Attendance is once again expected to be close to 700 (70 tables) with things kicking off at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with the program following around 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person, sponsor tables (seats nine plus one Loper football student-athlete) are $500 and fans unable to attend can still donate to the cause.

Since the banquet began in 2010, it has garnered over $2.4 million dollars for scholarships and other program needs.

LOPER GOLF BOTERO MOLINA WINS MIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS:

Junior Juliana Botero Molina shot a 7-over 223 to win the 2024 MIAA Championships Wednesday in Bolivar, Mo.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par 72 Shilo Ridge C.C. (5,864 yards).

UNK carded the program’s sixth lowest round (295) on Tuesday to get back into the team race but turned in a 313 today to finish with a 928. While that’s the best 54-hole tally the Lopers have ever carded at the MIAA Championships, it was good for sixth in a field of 11. Central Missouri won (907) with Rogers State the runner up (916).

Botero Molina (Colombia) should be headed to Bartlesville, Okla., as an individual qualifier after having rounds of 78, 71 and 74 to hold off three challengers to earn medalist honors.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL SPRING PRACTICE COMMENTS – SATTERFIELD:

SATTERFIELD – QUARTERBACK SPRING GAME PLANS:

Nebraska Football offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield spoke to the media on Tuesday, being asked immediately how his quarterbacks are developing and the plans for their playing time for Saturday’s Red-White Spring Game…

The Big Red have three scholarship quarterbacks set to participate Saturday, including returning starter Heinrich Haarberg and incoming freshmen Daniel Kaelin and Dylan Raiola.

SATTERFIELD – ERVIN & JOHNSON ‘COACH ON THE FIELD’:

Marcus Satterfield, Nebraska Football’s offensive coordinator, has missed running backs Gabe Ervin Jr. and Rahmir Johnson during spring practices, but reiterated on Tuesday that both are still very involved with the program…

Ervin and Johnson had their season end against Northern Illinois last season with injuries as both continue to recover in hopes of playing later this fall.

SATTERFIELD – HAARBERG MORE COMFORTABLE:

Nebraska’s returning starting quarterback Heinrich Haarberg started for all five wins of the Huskers season in 2023 and continues to compete this spring for the starting job. Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield said the Kearney Catholic alum has shown vast improvement since last year…

Haarberg ended last season as the team’s leading rusher, but suffered an injury that sidelined him for the final two games of the year.

REGGIE BUSH HAS 2005 HEISMAN REINSTATED:

Reggie Bush has his Heisman back.

The Heisman Trust reinstated the former Southern California tailback as the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner on Wednesday, citing fundamental changes in the structure of college athletics during the 14 years since Bush forfeited the trophy and the honor.

Bush gave up his Heisman following an NCAA investigation that found he received what were impermissible benefits during his time with the Trojans. College football players are now allowed to profit from their work in many ways, and the Heisman Trust decided it was time to move past the conflict with one of the most exciting players in the sport’s history.

Bush won the trophy awarded to the top player in college football after amassing 2,218 yards from scrimmage and scoring 18 touchdowns in 2005. His 784 first-place votes were the fifth most in Heisman history.
