Kearney Girls Soccer v. Lincoln Northeast, A-5 District Semifinal 2024 // Mitchell Brandt
KEARNEY – The top-seed in the A-5 District cemented their spot in the final, as the Kearney High Girls Soccer team took down No. 4 seed Lincoln Northeast 8-0 on Monday evening at Kearney High School. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Kearney ended the regular season at 13-2 overall, having won out since falling to Lincoln Southwest in early April. The Bearcats earned the fifth highest district seeding, hosting the A-5 District and awaited their matchup between the winner of the Rockets and Omaha Northwest.
The Rockets pushed past the Huskies 10-0 on Saturday, April 27 to earn a spot in the district semifinal. Lincoln Northeast entered at 6-10 overall.
Kearney wasted no time getting up early, as the Bearcats Ashtyn Vancura opened up the goal early with a second minute strike. Up 1-0, the Bearcats failed to convert several corner kicks and set plays to push their lead further.
Lincoln Northeast was stifled throughout the contest by the stout and speedy defense of Kearney, leading to three quick goals near the end of the first half by Molly Kalsbeck (37′), Vancura (38′), and Kalsbeck again (39′). The Bearcats would lead at the half up 4-0.

Kearney pounced on more goals early in the second half, as Reese Holscher stepped in to strike two scores (48′, 63′). Ava Angel-Trejo (78′) wrapped the scoring after a team goal (75′) finishing off Northeast in the 8-0 victory.
Kadi Ecklund earned the win in goal with a save facing only one shot on goal all evening with a clean sheet.
The Bearcats will now await Millard West on Wednesday in the A-5 District Final, welcoming the Wildcats after they won at home over Papillion-LaVista South 2-1 on Monday night. KGFW will broadcast the Wednesday matchup with Austin Jacobsen and Tristan Crook on the call.
