Heavy rains slow planting in north Iowa

Recent heavy rains in parts of the Midwest are slowing planting progress.

Iowa State University Extension agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz covers eight counties in north-central Iowa and tells Brownfield it will take time for the moisture to dry out.

“And then it looks wet for the next week yet, so it’s going to be some time before we get back in the field and planting. But this moisture is good for what we’ve got in the ground, it’s just going to delay us from putting more crop in the ground for probably a good solid ten days.”

She says there’s an easy way to ensure conditions are dry enough to resume planting.
