Bearcat Season Ends in Nine Inning Battle

LINCOLN – Kearney went down swinging, putting up a nine-inning battle in their A-1 District semifinal loss to Omaha Westside at Den Hartog field Saturday afternoon. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

The Bearcats (15-14) finish their season in the 4-3 loss to the second seed in the district, scoring three runs on nine hits with two errors while the Warriors moved into the District Championship with four runs on six hits and no errors.

Bryce Anderson worked six innings for the Bearcats, as the ace gave up four hits and three runs, two earned, with three walks and four strikeouts. Kegan Brand fielded the loss for Kearney, entering in relief and going 2.1 innings with two hits allowed, one earned run, one walk, and a strikeout.

The Warriors’  pitcher Chandler earned the victory, coming in relief of Reberniss finishing out with four innings, four hits, one earned run, four walks, and a strikeout. Reberniss ended with five innings, five hits, two earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Kearney’s bats were active all day, but could not overcome loaded bases opportunities to add to their scoring. The final score of the contest came off a fielders choice hit by Westside’s Landon Hall, scoring the final run of the contest.

Omaha Westside would drop the A-1 District Championship to top-seed in Class A Lincoln East 9-0.

Kearney ends their season graduating seven seniors, including Karter Lee, Garrison Burns, Kaleb Larson, Kegan Brand, Jacob Hansen, Beau Skala, and Jase Blattner.

The MISKO Sports Senior Legion season opens on Wednesday, May 22 as the Kearney Legion team welcomes North Platte to Memorial Field.
