Man arrested after assaulting Grand Island hospital security staff

GRAND ISLAND — A man was arrested after assaulting security staff at Grand Island’s CHI Health St. Francis hospital during the evening hours of Sunday, May 5.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 8:37 p.m., officers responded to the St. Francis emergency room in reference to a disturbance. The reporting party said that a male was being combative and threatening staff.

The male, later identified as Moises Llames Lopez, would throw a punch at a security guard and they attempted to restrain him.

GIPD stated the Lopez would spit in the face of a security guard and break his prescription glasses during the altercation. He would also cause damage to the hospital’s counter.

Lopez would attempt to grab an officer’s firearm from the holster and continue to resist officers and staff after commands were given while trying to place him into handcuffs. He would spit on officers and grab an officer’s hand, digging his nail in and breaking the skin.

Lopez would be sedated by hospital staff and evaluated. He was later discharged from the hospital and then arrested for third degree assault on an officer, obstruction, attempt of a Class 3 felony, assault on a public safety officer by bodily fluid, three counts and criminal mischief, two counts.

Lopez would be booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
