HUSKER BASEBALL FAILS TO SWEEP GOPHERS; TAKES SERIES IN MINNESOTA:

Nebraska fell short of completing its second series sweep on the road in Big Ten play, as the Huskers fell 6-2 at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon at Siebert Field in Minneapolis.

Nebraska (30-16, 12-6 Big Ten) scored two runs on seven hits, while Minnesota (21-21, 7-11 Big Ten) totaled six runs and five hits.

The Huskers took the Friday and Saturday matchups to take the road series overall.

Nebraska steps out of conference action, as the Huskers welcome South Dakota State to Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Wednesday, May 8. 

NEBRASKA SOFTBALL CLAIMS FOUR SEED IN BIG TEN; DROP REGULAR SEASON FINALE:

The Nebraska softball team ended the regular season with a 7-5 loss at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers won the weekend series and ended the regular season with a 29-22 record and a fourth-place finish in the Big Ten with a 12-9 conference record.

Nebraska is the #4 seed for the Big Ten Tournament and will play either Minnesota or Illinois on Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Northwestern (33-10, 19-3 Big Ten) is the No. 1 seed for this year’s tournament after earning its 10th Big Ten Championship and third in a row on Sunday.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SELLS OUT HEALTH & SPORTS CENTER; SWEEPS DENVER SATURDAY:

The Nebraska volleyball team swept Denver, 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,094 at the UNK Health and Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

It was the largest attended crowd at the Health and Sports Center, with lines forming well before 9 AM to arrive at the home of the Lopers.

The biggest news for the Huskers over the weekend involved Harper Murray, as she was suspended for Saturday’s contest. 

Murray was cited for DUI in early-April after registering a BAC of 0.169. Murray was also found to be in possession of a fake ID. A social media post last week also accused Murray of shoplifting. 

STATE SOCCER BEGINS WITH CLASS A GIRLS TODAY:

One of the best atmospheres in state competitions begin today as the Nebraska State Soccer Championships start at Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium. 

The Class A Girls begin the action today with No. 7 Kearney taking on No. 2 Omaha Marian at noon. KGFW will provide radio coverage of the contest with the pregame beginning at 11:45 AM. 

In Class B Boys, Lexington earned the fourth seed after defeating Elkhorn in their District Final. The Minutemen will battle Elkhorn North on Thursday night. 

In Class B Girls, Northwest takes on Bennington on Wednesday night.

DISTRICT BASEBALL WRAPPED OVER WEEKEND; STATE BASEBALL FIELD SET:

Kearney and Grand Island fell in their Class A districts, wrapping up their seasons in Lincoln as the State Baseball Championship fields are set for all classes. 

In Class A, Lincoln East claimed the top seed overall while Class B’s top team was earned by Norris. Class C’s No. 1 seed features the Malcolm Clippers.

Area teams in action include Class C’s Central City/Centura taking on DC West, and Adams Central facing Platteview on Saturday.

LOPER TENNIS FALLS TO GRIFFONS IN MIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The 34th-ranked Missouri Western State Griffons won four singles matches to down 15th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, 4-2, in the MIAA Tournament Championship Sunday morning in Edmond, Okla.

MWSU (17-3) receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships; the field will be announced tonight at 7:30 p.m. Central. 

UNK (19-5) was the top team in the last Central Region rankings and is in line to make the event for the first time since 2018 and the 12th time in program history.
