Lexington Boys Soccer v. Omaha Skutt Catholic, Class B Boys Soccer Championship // Mitchell Brandt

OMAHA – Lexington could not find the finishing touch on their many attacks, ultimately dropping the Class B title game 2-0 to Omaha Skutt Catholic.

It was the fourth consecutive season for the Dawson County team to meetup with Omaha Skutt, as the Skyhawks had taken the previous outings.

Omaha Skutt Catholic worked quickly for the opening score of the contest, as the Skyhawks’ Ben Schendt (7′) began his run from the midfield to fire a low shot to beat the Minutemen keeper. Before hitting the ten minute mark, Skutt Catholic was up and leading 1-0.

Lexington continued to attack the goal growing more comfortable into the contest. Nearing the half, Skutt’s keeper Morgan Finkenbinder denied a close shot by Lexington that would have tied the contest. Instead, the Minutemen continued to trail into the half down 1-0.

Skutt quickly went up two scores in the first ten minutes of the second half, as Leo Bailey headed in a corner kick through the crowd. Lexington trailed 2-0 with under thirty minutes left.

Lexington nearly had an answer two minutes later, but a penalty kick save prevented a score after a foul came in the box of Skutt.

The Minutemen were shut out the rest of the way, ultimately falling for the fourth consecutive season to the Skyhawks as Omaha Skutt claimed the fifth straight Class B title winning 2-0.

Lexington ends their year as the state runner-up for the third time in school history.
