Kearney High School Boys Track & Field @ State Championships 2024 // Mitchell Brandt

OMAHA – For the first time since 2014, the Kearney High School Bearcat boys track and field program has claimed the Class A title.

Kearney, one of the traditional powerhouses in track and field with sixteen team championships from 1994 through 2014, earned the title over the two day Class A State Track & Field championships held at Omaha’s Burke Stadium with 78 total team points.

Kearney started early, scoring points in the opening day with a state titles won by Luke Brachle in the high jump. On Thursday, the Bearcats added titles by the 4×100 M Relay and Cole Brandt’s Discus Throw.

The Bearcats continued their success by continually scoring points in 100 M dash (Zaire LaGrone-Miller), 110 M High Hurdles (Brachle, Luke Draper), 200 M dash (LaGrone-Miller), Long Jump (Taj Wilson), Pole Vault (Ayden Nelson), Shot Put (Brandt, Baker Bertrand), and Triple Jump (Kyler Nichols, Wilson).

The Bearcats locked in the championship prior to the final event of the day, leading Class A with 78 points entering with a comfortable seventeen point advantage.

Kearney claimed the championship over runner-up Millard West (66) and Lincoln Southeast (46.5). Grand Island finished sixth with 32.5 points.
