It was the first game of the season for the Kearney Legion teams, and the home opener for the summer at Memorial Field.

The Misko Sports Seniors began on a strong defensive showing, allowing a hit on the first batter faced but Kole Throckmorton threw out the North Platte run in the opening inning to prevent any scoring. Derrick Nonhof had the start for Kearney, and held North Platte scoreless throughout the first five innings.

Kearney scored their first run in the bottom of the second, then added two more scores in the fourth inning with Throckmorton’s 2 RBI single blast down the middle of the infield.

North Platte would respond with an RBI double by Easton Jones that blasted to the centerfield wall. The score was the lone tally for the Nationals in the contest, as Kearney added two insurance scores in the bottom of the sixth.

Nonhof pitched a complete game, finishing with only four hits allowed, one run, and three strikeouts. Burns led the way with one run scored, one hit, and two RBI. Throckmorton ended with 2 RBI off of one hit. Bryce Anderson also tallied an RBI.

Kearney (1-0) won with five runs on six hits and two errors, while North Platte fell with one run on four hits.
